This variety is from the South of France and is often blended there with other whites Roussane and Viognier. It is also one of the 13 red and white varieties that are blended to make the famous Chateau Neufe de Pape.
In Australia it was championed for 50 years by Chateau Talbilk through to the 1980s when it was given attention for being chosen to be served to the Queen. Since then it has been more widely planted in cooler and warmer climates.
The Tahbilk wines always rewarded cellaring and to prove a point they now release an older wine. Like Hunter Semillon Marsanne has some appeal as a young wine and can achieve greatness 10 or more years on.
The Rewine Marsanne is made as a drink now style with subtle apple and crunchy pear flavours. Like some Italian whites this wine has a broadness on the palate and is very suitable with food. It has a dry and crisp finish that is almost minerally. The wine was made in the King Valley from fruit sourced from both cool and warm Victorian vineyards. This adds length to the palate and gives it a bit of complexity to keep it interesting. |
