Durif is a very old cross breed of Shiraz that was developed by a certain Doctor Durif in the south of France in the early 1900’’s. It was supposed to grow and produce better quality fruit in the hot climates of the South of France. This has made it more suitable than Shiraz or Cabernet for growing in our Murray River region.
The Rutherglen winemakers have taken it to heart and produce their “flagship” red wines from Durif. It is traditional “big red” style balanced with high alcohol, strong fruit, and tannins with soft acidity.
It will last for years, but is a good drink already.
