The Muscats and Tokays of the Australian wine industry are unique. There are Ports from Portugal made in a similar way to ours but nothing quite like our Muscats and Tokays. The Spanish very old Pedro Ximinez sweet Sherries are close with their beautiful old “Rancio” flavours layered with the characteristic Flor sherry flavours.

Our Tokay is made up of a blend of material with an average age of more than 15 years. The extra age produces the lovely extra flavour only acquired with time in a barrel called “Rancio”. This gives the affect of drying out the palate. The sweetness has not gone away, it has just been balanced by the extra “Rancio” flavour. Compare this to the Classic Muscat of ours that has 10 years in the barrel and still shows all its sweetness. If the Tokay had the word Rutherglen in the name you would pay three times as much. Serve it up to your wine friends and tell them you paid $30 for the half bottle.
