Short Description: Definitely not my favourite variety.

The Australian Wine Industry was reinvorated in the early seventies and Cabernet Sauvignon was the darling of the new generation of baby boomer wine drinkers.  Some of the early wines were exceptional - remember the Wynns Black Label Cabernets from the Sixties - some are still going strong.

What went wrong? The wines were over cropped and grown in a lot of the wrong climates like Tasmania or Mornington Peninsula.   This produced a lake of green under-ripe wines and the public fell out of love with the variety.

Since then a handful of loyal growers and winemakers have persisted and produced some good ripe sweet wines that will last for decades and are good drinking now.  Langhorne Creek does not struggle for ripeness and once a year watering on the old vineyards produces low cropping.
